Wausau overnight parking ban takes effect

Audio Clip (Download MP3)

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) – If you live or work in Wausau, you won't be able to park your car on the street overnight until the spring.

A winter parking ban takes effect today and lasts until March 31. The ban makes it illegal to park on the street between 2:30 and 6 a.m.

Residents with out-of-town guests can request an exemption by calling the police department at 261-6765 and pressing 2. The city warns callers not to leave a voice mail message because messages are not received by the police department. Callers who leave voice mail messages for overnight parking can still get a citation.

Having the ban in place will make it easier for city crews to remove snow and allow more space for cars to travel once the snow hits., said traffic Lieutenant Ben Bliven.

Violators are fined $25 though the fine increases during snow emergencies.
