WAUSAU, Wis (WSAU) Two more city unions in Wausau have agreed to delay pay raises and to cover more of their health insurance costs. The city insisted on those changes as part of the 2010 budget. Without them, Mayor Jim Tipple was proposing large-scale layoffs of city staff.
The two latest unions to accept the changes are the city's clerical staff and road workers. Police and firefighters had already accepted similar changes before the budget was finalized last Tuesday.
The city has already laid off ten public works employees. More layoffs are possible if the economy and city tax collections don't improve.
