MADISON, Wis. (Midwest Communications) - The Big Ten conference plans to aggressively seek a 12th member. That according to a report in the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.
Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez talked about the move to the UW athletic board Friday. "I have a sense he is going to take this year to really be more aggressive about it," Alvarez said, "but there is no timetable."
Alvarez indicates the reasons to add a 12th school includes visibility, relevance and a Big Ten Championship Game. A 12th team would allow for two divisions in football and other sports and a football championship game. Travel costs also would be cut down for all sports. Penn State was the last school added to the conference back in 1993.
