WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) – A program to help gather parent and community volunteers to work in the Wausau school district has already achieved one of its goals a semester into the program.
Volunteer coordinator Roxane Hagedorn says they've already gotten over 200 parent and resident volunteers at the 4 elementary schools where the One program has already started its pilot year. Hagedorn says the volunteers have been helping out staff by filing mail, helping put up bulletin board postings, and mentoring students both in classrooms at at the school.
There are still some kinks to work out in the process, however. Hagedorn says some parents just aren't used to the new online registration program, and have trouble working out the forms that go along with registering as a volunteer.
Hagedorn says she hopes the program will continue to expand next year.
