WAUSAU, Wis (WSAU) The Town of Wausau will no longer use the Wausau Fire Department for ambulance service. They're switching to the Town of Weston as a cost-saving measure.
The City of Wausau was asking for 45-thousand dollars to provide ambulance service in the town. Weston's offer was to charge the difference between the cost of an ambulance run and the reimbursement rate. The change could save the town nearly 30-thousand dollars depending on how many calls come in next year.
Some residents are opposed to the change. Weston is further away from Wausau, and response times could increase.
The switch takes effect January 1st, and is for a one-year trial basis.
