WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) – It'll be a little harder to get into Wausau this morning after the Department of Transportation closes down a major offramp into the city.
Project director Robin Staffer says the closure will be for the northbound offramp from I-39 to the HWY 52 Parkway just north of Stewart Avenue. That ramp had already been redirected for earier roadwork, but will be torn up once again as crews build a shunt for Northbound traffic over the winter.
Staffer says this is a prelude to the construction of the arcing overpass that will connect Eastbound Hwy 29 to Northbound I-39 in the Spring of 2010. They'll need the extra space provided by the crossover to get to work over the Winter.
The work is expected to take a week, and detours have been posted along Sherman Street and Bridge Street to 17th Avenue.
