WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) – Five garage fires in Wausau yesterday have officially been ruled arson.
“There was no other source of ignition or other explanations for the fire except that they were set,” said deputy police Chief Bryan Hilts.
The first fire was reported just before 12:45 a.m. in the 700 block of Washington Street. The garage was a total loss.
The second fire was reported just after 3 a.m. in the 600 block of Division Street. The fire started in a detached garage and spread to a nearby home.
A third fire occurred in the 700 block of Jackson Street about 5:15 a.m.
The fourth fire happened at 7 a.m. in a detached garage the 600 block of Jackson Street.
The fifth fire broke out just after 6 p.m. near the corner of 7th and Jackson Streets.
Police have set up an arson tip line at 715-261-7840.
Authorities remind homeowners to lock their garages, make sure outside lighting is working properly and remove easily combustible materials.
