UNDATED (WSAU) Officials numbers will come early next week, but there are many indications that this has been a disappointing gun-deer season.
Some registration stations say the number of deer are down 25-percent.
Many hunters have complained they simply haven’t seen a lot of deer. Others say bad weather is to blame. There was a lot of fog on opening day, making it difficult to see and hunt. Warmer weather earlier in the hunt also made the deer less active.
Other hunters have criticized the earn-a-buck program in recent years, which has thinned out the number of does. Others believe the increasing number of wolves in the northwoods has kept the deer population down.
