WAUSAU, Wis (WSAU) Wausau police are trying to locate the owner of a gun that was found in an alley near Lincoln Elementary School. A student made the discovery on Monday afternoon and told a teacher, who called police.

It was a loaded 22-calibre semi-automatic handgun found in the bushes near the school building. Police are trying to trace the owner through the gun's serial number. So far, the owner has not been located.

Police have also contacted federal law enforcement officials to see if the gun was used to commit any crimes in the Wausau area.
