WAUSAU, Wis (WSAU) Tougher rules for rental properties are being considered in Wausau. The public health committee is expected to vote on new regulations.
The biggest change would impact out-of-town landlords who rent apartments within the city. They would be required to have a local agent on-file with the city in case there are problems with their property. The local agent would be contacted if there are emergencies at the property -- like broken pipes -- or if there are repeated problems with tenants.
The other change would be re-inspection fee for properties that are in violation of public health and safety rules. Landlords would have to pay if the building and zoning officer has to return to a property for a third time because of the same violation.
The city is also considering a ban on junk cars parked at rental properties. Vehicles that can’t be operated would have to be garaged or removed.
