WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) – A Wausau man charged with killing a high school senior this spring has a new attorney and a new trial date.
Raul Ponce-Rocha will be represented by public defender Mike Moran, according to online court records.
His two-week trial that had been set to begin February 1st will now begin June 7th. That will give Moran enough time to pore over the hundreds of pages of police and crime lab reports to prepare a defense.
Ponce-Rocha’s former attorney, Gene Linehan, withdrew from the case earlier this month because Ponce-Rocha hadn’t paid a retainer.
Ponce-Rocha is charged with first-degree intentional homicide for beating and stabbing Breanna Schneller to death in her westside apartment May 2nd.
