WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) – You may pay more to ride a bus in Wausau next year under a plan before transit leaders.
The plan outlines four different fare proposals, including no change, an increase in pre-sold passes, a big increase across all fares and a modest increase across all fares.
Wausau’s transit commission reviewed the plan today but held off making any recommendation until October 15th.
System managers say higher fares may be necessary to fill a gap in the transit budget. But they won’t know how big that gap will be for a few more weeks.
Other measures the commission could consider toward filling the gap include cuts in service and asking union members to accept wage or benefit concessions.
You would get a chance to sound off on the fare increases if that’s why officials recommend. They must hold a public hearing before approving any final changes in the fare structure.
