WMU Rocks Miami on CommUniversity Night 48-26

KALAMAZOO -- On the opening play from scrimmage Miami Running Back Thom Merriweather fumbled WMU's Jamail Berry recovered the fumble in mid-air and ran it in for a 7-0 Broncos lead.  It was that kind of night for the Miami Redhawks in the 2009 MAC opener for both teams.

Miami tried to get their passing game going and at points even looked like they were gaining traction only to fall short on several key 3rd down plays.

The Broncos on the other hand had Quarterback Tim Hiller looking like his old self for the first time this season.  Hiller 17-of-29 passes for 185 yards and 4 touchdowns.  Hiller had help from his shifty tailback Brandon West as well.

West finished the evening with 91 yards on 18 carries to go along with 68 yards on 2 kick returns.  Hiller was also finding different targets in the Broncos 1st victory of the season Saturday.

Only Juan Nunez' grabbed 2 touchdown passes while Hiller spread it around to West through the air and to Freshman Tight End Blake Hammond for his 1st career touchdown catch.

The win improves the Broncos record to 1-2 on the season heading into a 7PM match-up with Hofstra Saturday at Waldo Stadium.  WKZO.COM Bronco Sports First will have full coverage beginning Saturday at 5:30PM from the WKZO.COM and 1660 THE FAN tailgate show LIVE on Oliver Street across from Lot 95.
