WAUSAU, Wis (WSAU) Wausau's city council has designated four new historic landmarks for the city. They are: Wausau City Hall, the stone entrances at the east end of Marathon Park, the Pleasant View Park stone shelter, and Barker Stewart Island.
The city's landmarks preservation committee has been designating places of historic significance in Wausau since 1975. It means the sites can't face outside development or significant changes.
Barker Stewart Island has the last vestiges of a sawmill along the Wisconsin River. It's still accessible by a footbridge from Wausau's east side.
