WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) – Wausau's school board is getting ready to start the search for a new superintendent with news that Steve Murley is a finalist for a position in Iowa.
Board president Dale Lawson says that while Murley is under a contract with the school board, he is free to leave for the new job if it is offered. Lawson added that anyone should be free to pursue greener pastures if they become available.
If Murley is offered the position, Lawson says the process will then begin for Wausau to find a superintendent again.
Murley has battled a multimillion dollar budget deficit and strained relations with the teachers union in the last year. The union voted no confidence in Murley in December.
The Iowa City school board could make a contract offer when it meets Sunday April 25th.
