MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (WTAQ) - “Dateline NBC” will devote a full hour Friday night to the 2002 murder of Racine County native Chris Jenkins.
He was attending the University of Minnesota when he went missing from a tavern on Halloween night of ’02. His body was found in the Mississippi River 4 months later, and police said it was either an accidental drowning or a suicide.
But in 2006, Minneapolis Police Chief Tim Dolan ordered that the case be re-opened. He later declared it a murder, and he publicly apologized to the Jenkins family.
At one point, investigators thought Jenkins’ death was linked to dozens of other river drownings of college-age students in the Upper Midwest. But nothing concrete ever appeared to come from that.
Now, Jenkins’ father Steve says the family hopes that, “someone’s conscience is going to be playing on them after they see this story.” Dateline NBC will be aired from 8 to 10 p.m. Friday.
