WAUSAU, Wis (WSAU) One of Wausau's lead negotiators in the human resources department merger with Marathon County is stepping down. Jim Brezinski is resigning as chairman of the city's H-R committee. He says he's disappointed in the tone of the debate. He will remain on the City Council.
Brezinski had warned other city leaders that if more conditions are added to the merger agreement, the deal will likely fall through.
City leaders are trying to negotiate four changes. The most controversial is whether two H-R staff members can remain city employees. Marathon County objects to that.
Mayor Jim Tipple will appoint a new Human Resource committee chairman. The county says the agreement needs to be finalized by August 31st.
