Michigan Won Its Big Ten-Acc Challenge Game Last Night

by

Evan Smotrycz scored 18 points last night to lead Michigan to a 69-61 victory at Clemson in a Big Ten/ACC Challenge game. Fellow freshman Tim Hardaway Jr. added 15 points for the Wolverines, who improved their record to 4-and-2. Michigan shot a sizzling 60% from the floor in the first half and went into the break with a 40-to-24 advantage.

The Wolverines ran cold in the second half netting just 29 percent of its shots, but used a 12-for-17 clip from the foul line to grab the eight-point win.  The Wolverines are back in action Saturday afternoon at home against Harvard.

Tonight, number-6 Michigan State plays its Challenge game at top-ranked Duke. Michigan State Coach Tom Izzo says having the Spartans play so many good non conference opponents like the Blue Devils lets him know Where his team stands before the league season begins at the end of this month.

So far, the Big Ten leads this year’s Challenge 4-games-to-2. Last night, in addition to the Michigan victory, Illinois beat North Carolina, Ohio State downed Florida State, Northwestern beat Georgia Tech, and Wake Forest defeated Iowa.
