UNDATED (WSAU) There may be a new lead in the unsolved murder of a U-W student from Marshfield. The LaCrosse Tribune is reporting that Madison police believe there's a D-N-A match between evidence in Brittany Zimmerman's apartment in Madison and a break-in at a University Avenue bar.
Madison's assistant city attorney confirmed a possible relationship between the two cases, even though there's nothing in the official police reports that says the two crimes are related. Madison police are not providing additional information, for fear it may compromise their investigation.
A parent of one of the teenagers who was questioned in connection with the bar break-in was told of the possible D-N-A evidence by a police detective.
No arrests have been made in the Zimmerman murder. She was killed in her off-campus apartment in 2008. Her family has recently settled a lawsuit against Dane County for mishandling the 9-1-1 call she made from her cellphone during the attack.
