WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) – Local municipalities may be scrapping plans for summer road projects next year after the state cut back funding for cities across the state.
Marathon County transportation planner Dave Mack says funding from the STP-Urban or Surface Transportation Program for the Wausau Metro area has been cut from about to $2.5 million dollars to $934,000. “That original funding would have allowed for approximately 5 million dollars worth of projects.”
There had originally been 5 projects up for funding, including a reconstruction of West Grand Avenue in Schofield and Rothschild. Now the only project that will be fully funded will be the planned reconstruction of Merrill Avenue along with the 29-51 project on Wausau's North Side. The will take up $920,000 worth of funding. The remaining $14,000 will be allocated to a project on Rib Mountain Drive.
Rib Mountain has planned an emergency meeting of the Town Board for tonight to go over that funding and look at options.
