MERRILL, Wis (WSAU) A Merrill man is under psychiatric evaluation after an apparent hostage stand-off with a pellet-gun yesterday.

Sheriffs deputies went into the home off Highway 17 and saw the man holding a pellet gun replica that looked like a semi-automatic weapon to the head of another person. The hostage negotiating team was called to the scene. The man also claimed that there was a bomb inside the home.

He tried to leave the residence using a second person as a shield. That person was able to escape outside, and the suspect was taken into custody.

The man was taken to North Central Health Care in Wausau for evaluation. His name isn't being released. Charges are pending.
