The Red Wings come up short again in an overtime shootout, losing 3-to-2 to the San Jose Sharks last night at Joe Louis Arena. Johan Franzen scored a power-play goal in the first and Jason Williams tallied at 12:55 of the third to tie the game for the Wings and set up overtime.
Jimmy Howard stopped 24 shots for Detroit, which has lost three straight one-goal games and four in-a-row overall. The Red Wings, who have dropped 11 of their last 14, host Ottawa tomorrow night and then break for two weeks for the Olympic games.
Tonight in the ECHL at Wings Stadium in Kalamazoo, the K-Wings host Johnstown. In college hockey, Western Michigan plays tonight and tomorrow night at Northern Michigan.
