WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) – A Wausau police officer shot and injured a dog early Monday morning after it attacked him at a home on Prospect Avenue.
The officer was responding to a disturbance call when the dog left the house, charged and bit him. Thanks to his thick winter coat, it didn't break the skin, but it did clamp down and shake the officer. He managed to get free, and when the dog started to circle him again, he shot the dog once.
Officers retrieved the dog and took it and the owner to an emergency vet for treatment. However, the vet refused to treat the dog after it continued to act aggressively. It eventually went home with it's owner.
Police have referred the owner to Wausau attorneys for possible violations of the dangerous animal ordinance. The case is still under investigation.
