WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) – Wausau high school students frustrated with the lack of a voice in school district planning have formed a Facebook page to make their views known.
The students created the “Students for the Betterment of the Wausau School District” group on Facebook. The group had nearly 120 members as of last night.
“As students, we feel betrayed by the people working to create our future livelihood,” Wausau East senior Eric Miller told the school board Monday night.
Miller said one issue students have is with the impact of potential cuts to academic programs like Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate.
“As an educational program, our school district should be preparing our high school students to become contributing members of society,” Miller said. “They should feel comfortable including us in these revisions.”
A student representative from each high school serves as a liaison to the school board. But the student representatives are not voting members.
