Rasmussen ready to lead as Wausau Area Events Director

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) – Wausau Area Event's new executive director says she's ready to hit the ground running in her new role.

Kari Rasmussen accepted the position at a meeting of the Main Street Wausau and Wausau Area Events boards earlier this week. She previously had been the events coordinator. The new position is a split from it's previous role as both the director of the River District and Wausau Area Events.

River District president Joe Mella says the position used to be held by Leah Alters, but it was determined late last year that having one person running both organizations was too much to ask of one person.

Both boards made the decision to change the structure last year, and were prepared to offer Rasmussen the job of Wausau Area Events director and Alters the directorship of the Main Street. Alters left the position to take up leadership of the Columbus Art Festival in Ohio. That job has now been posted for applications.

Rasmussen says her first goal will be to improve the involvement of the community in how the events are run, as well as helping get the group ready for the construction on 3rd street scheduled for this spring.
