BARRON COUNTY, Wis. (WTAQ) - Barron County will pay $175,000 to settle a lawsuit filed by a former county highway commissioner.
Brian Mattison said he was unfairly connected to a scheme to falsify records, which was meant to get higher reimbursements from the state DOT. In a statement, the county said it did not believe Mattison was "directly involved" in any falsification of records – and that he retired on his own at the start of 2008.
Mattison will get $130,000 for damages. His lawyers will get the other $45,000 in the settlement, which averts a trial that was set for later this month.
