FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WTAQ) - Storms Wednesday night is being blamed for sparking a fire at the Mercury Marine plant in Fond du Lac.
Fire crews get the call to 545 West Pioneer Road around 9 p.m. Plant officials reportedly told firefighters storm water backed up into their induction furnace. It caused the vaccum conductors to explode.
All employees were evacuated safely. The fire was kept to the area where it started. Crews did have to remove 9,000 pounds of molten aluminum. Damage is estimated at $100,000.
