WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) – The Department of Transportation will be shutting down the southbound onramp from Highway 52 to I-39 so workers can start building an overpass.
That closure starts this morning, and project manager Dan Holloway says it's needed so that work crews can construct one of the spanning overpasses from Highway 29 to I-39. It also means you'll have to find a new way to get onto the highway from the west side of Wausau. Also expect lanes to be restricted during the construction as crews work overhead laying beams and girders.
Detours have been posted, and the closest onramps are the one on Sherman Street near Home Depot, and at Bridge Street.
The work is expected to continue through June when the overpass construction is completed.
