DELAFIELD, Wis. (WTAQ) - A gun club in Delafield has suspended its shooting operations, after a bullet got away and grazed a pregnant woman who was dining outside a restaurant.
31-year-old Raluca Buznea was treated at a hospital for a bruise on her abdomen. She’s 17 weeks pregnant and says her baby is fine. The incident happened last Thursday evening.
Officials said they seized two handguns from the Hartland Sportsmen’s Club, and the State Crime Lab identified the gun from which the bullet was fired. But it’s not known exactly who fired the shot – because the gun is used by a number of people for shooting practice.
Delafield Police Chief Scott Taubel said the gun club has voluntarily halted its shooting for now – and the people who were there at the time of the incident are cooperating with investigators. The club says it’s also doing its own probe.
The city recently allowed the club to extend its hours, and residents had complained about more noise in the days before the shooting. Delafield’s Plan Commission will hold a public hearing May 26th to see if the club is meeting the terms of its latest city conditional-use permit.
