JEFFERSON COUNTY, Wis. (WTAQ) - A man awaiting trial for the 30-year-old murders of 2 high school sweethearts in Jefferson County is also being investigated for a pair of old slayings in Ohio.
Authorities have sent the DNA of Edward Edwards to investigators in Ohio, in connection with the 1977 killings of 18-year-old Judith Straub and 21-year-old William Lavaco.
According to court records, the 76-year-old Edwards invited Ohio prosecutors to interview him about the killings. Edwards is awaiting trial in Jefferson for the 1980 murders of Tim Hack and Kelly Drew. They were killed after leaving a wedding reception in Sullivan – and their bodies were found 2 months later in a nearby wooded area.
A judge is being asked this week to delay the Jefferson County trial, so the public defender can have more time to review the evidence and meet with expert witnesses. That trial is now set for mid-June.
