Detroit’s game with the White Sox last night at Comerica Park was rained out and more showers are in the forecast for this afternoon when the two teams are scheduled to play before the Tigers depart for a seven game road trip. No makeup date was announced but they could set it for the first week in August, when the White Sox are next scheduled to play in Detroit.
The rainout allowed first place Minnesota to pick up a half-game on the second place Tigers, who now trail the Twins by 2 games in the American League Central after Minnesota beat Toronto 8-to-3 last night.
The Cubs won for just the fourth time in 13 games when Aramis Ramirez hit a 2-run, walk-off homer in the bottom of the 11th for a 4-to-2 victory over Colorado.
Speaking of walk-off homers, a former Tiger, Marcus Thames, belted one for the Yankees who scored 4 runs in the ninth to beat Boston 11-to-9. Thames, who was signed in the off season after being released by the Tigers following 7 seasons in Detroit, also had an rbi double last night.
