WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) – The state corrections department plans to release a convicted sex offender into Wausau today.
Terrance Steppert was convicted in 1985 of three counts of first degree sexual assault and one count of burglary. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison for the sexual assault and 10 years for the burglary.
Steppert had his probation revoked in 2006 for a laundry list of offenses including nonconsensual sex with a woman, having sex with an unknown woman without his probation agent’s approval and unsupervised contact with a 14-year-old girl.
Steppert was released into the community in January 2009 but his probation was revoked again in July for lewd and lascivious behavior. An administrative law judge sent him back to prison for 10 months.
Once Steppert is released today, he will live in transitional housing and be placed on intense supervision with an electronic monitoring bracelet. He must also regularly update his whereabouts with the state’s sex offender registry.
