WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) – Wausau taxpayers could see their property taxes increase by $8 next year under the proposed city budget.
The increase had been as high as $23 but city officials have ordered departments to make deeper cuts. Those cuts are due next week. If city leaders get the cuts they want, the property tax rate will increase by 8 cents to $8.49 per $1,000 of assessed property value. That means the owner of a $100,000 home would pay $849 next year.
Residents asked the City Council to lower taxes and not cut services during a public hearing Tuesday night. The Council will vote on the budget November 23rd.
