MADISON, Wis. (WSAU) – The unemployment rate fell in Wausau last month but the city still had the third highest local jobless rate in the state.
The seasonally unadjusted rate fell from 11.7 percent in August to 10.5 percent in September. Beloit still has the highest local jobless rate, though it fell from 15.5 percent to 14.4 percent. Stevens Point saw the biggest month-to-month drop; its rate went from 8.8 percent in August to 7.2 percent last month.
In the Wausau metro area, which includes the rest of Marathon County, the seasonally unadjusted jobless rate dropped a full percentage point from 8.2 percent in August to 7.2 percent last month.
“Wisconsin’s economy continues to show signs of recovery,” state workforce development secretary Roberta Gassman said. “But we have more work to do to help job seekers across the state find employment.”
