WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) – A Wausau church will be celebrating its 100th anniversary this Sunday.
The corner stone at Saint Stephens Lutheran Church was placed 100 years ago this summer. The celebration on Sunday will be lead by former Rev. John Swensen who lead the church from 1980 to 1998. In honor of the German heritage of the church, parts of the service will be performed in German. All are invited to the event which starts at 10:30.
The contents of that corner stone will be on display all weekend, including three newspapers from the day it was laid back in July of 1909. There's also bibles, a catechism, and a letter in German explaining the need for the new church. The original cost for the building including the organ and the furnishings came out to $65,000.
