WUASAU, Wis (WSAU) A fire on Wausau's west side caused thousands of dollars of damage and left a family temporarily homeless.

The fire started in the basement of the Spruce Street home and was reported by one of the homeowners when she returned home around 10:30 am. No one was home at the time of the blaze and no one was injured. The home is smoke-damaged but can be repaired.

The Wausau Fire Department battled the blaze and they report that most of the damage was confined to the basement area.
