WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) – Democratic state lawmakers will hold their own budget hearing in Wausau today.
The hearing is from 1 to 7 p.m. in the auditorium at the health sciences building at Northcentral Technical College.
Organizers say they're hosting the hearing in response to the Legislature's Joint Finance Committee only holding four hearings around the state. One of those hearings was in Stevens Point earlier this month.
Residents spoke out at a hearing in Rhinelander on Saturday against cuts to road aid, technical colleges and family planning programs.
“I feel that to help large and small businesses, along with citizens of our state, the state government should be adding more money in the budget to send out to the technical colleges,” said Rhinelander resident Bob Fredrickson.
Republican lawmakers were invited to Saturday's hearing but none attended.
