LOS ANGELES, Cal. (WSAU) – A pair of Wausau natives are going on a 6000 mile road trip in a car powered by vegetable oil to promote green energy.
Engineers Nicolas Pisca and Glenn Weinke have spent the last several years converting a number of different cars and vehicles to run on straight oil instead of bio-diesel. “We're taking what is essentially a waste product and converting it into something that can power a car.” Weinke says the process is cleaner than turning the oil into bio-diesel which requires harsh chemicals like lye and methanol.
Weinke says the pair will be putting together a full documentary to show people how to build cars like theirs, and show their trip across the eastern seaboard of the United States in the car. “We ought to have a lot of good footage, a lot of information for people when it's all done.” They'll be taking a 1996 VW Passat from Wausau and around the east coast and then back to Wausau.
