WAUPACA, Wis. (WSAU) - The former head of Waupaca's Parks and Recreations Department could get up to five years in prison when he is sentenced next June.
James Ash pleaded no contest to charges he stole more than 150 thousand dollars, most of it from the city's recreational organizations. Ash resigned from his position last year after 20 years on the job. He was accused of writing 167 checks to his personal account, with some of the money coming from Little League organizations and other groups.
Ash told police he'd used the money to pay his bills and he maintained he'd been paying it back little by little.
