WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) – Marathon County's parks commission has mirrored Wausau's new leash law for the parks system.
Assistant parks director Peter Knotek says the county wanted to make the rules easy to follow in all the parks. “Because of the joint nature of the departments, the county ordinance should mirror the city ordinance.” The move would require dogs in county parks to be kept on at most a 16 foot leash while in the park.
Knotek says the other option would have been to ban dogs in the parks. “We've had some less than responsible dog owners in the past, but eliminating dogs from the parks is not something we wanted to do.”
The resolution won't be made into a full ordinance until it's passed by the full county board. That meeting could come later this month.
