MINNEAPOLIS, MN (WTAQ) - The Republican Party of Minnesota is congratulating their colleagues across the border on retaining control of the Wisconsin Senate in Tuesday's recall elections -- albeit by only a one-vote margin.

Despite efforts by Minnesota AFL-CIO union members, Republican Sheila Harsdorf of River Falls held onto her seat -- but in another race targeted by the unions, Dan Kapanke of LaCrosse was defeated. AFL-CIO leaders are not commenting on the outcome of the recall elections.

Minnesota GOP Chair Tony Sutton says the results are "vindication that Governor Scott Walker and Republican legislators have the support of the people of Wisconsin when it comes to making tough decisions necessary to reduce the cost, size and scope of state government,”
