FORT DIX, NJ (WSAU) - An Army Reserves combat engineer unit leaves the whirlwind of battle - only to encounter Mother Nature's fury back at home.
The Wausau unit was stranded at Fort Dix in New Jersey by Hurricane Irene. The 428th Engineer Company finished demobilization yesterday and was supposed to fly home today, but planes were grounded. About 120 soldiers weren't allowed to leave for home due to the storm.
Fort Dix is just east of Philadelphia, only about 30 miles from the Atlantic Coast.
