MOSINEE, Wis. (WSAU) – Layoffs at the Wausau Paper mill in Brokaw will start around February 10th.
The Mosinee-based papermaker included the date in a letter to state officials notifying them of the company’s decision to close the Brokaw mill.
“Wausau Paper expects to terminate all employees on February 10, 2012, or any date during the 13-day period thereafter,” the letter said.
The company has said it would close the mill by the end of March. The layoff notice, released Thursday, is the first indication of when the layoffs will actually start.
Wausau Paper’s decision to close the mill comes as it plans to sell its print and color brand division to Neenah Paper. The Brokaw mill has been operating at a financial loss since 2002.
