MOSINEE, Wis. (WSAU) – More passengers flew in and out of the Central Wisconsin Airport last year – a trend that airport officials think may continue in 2011.
The airport recorded 311,030 enplaned and deplaned passengers in 2010, up nearly 7 percent from the 291,121 passengers the airport saw in 2009.
“It's a positive sign and we're expecting a turnaround from the last few years,” said airport marketing coordinator Ashleigh Marzynski, referring to the negative impact the economic recession had on air travel in 2008 and 2009.
Marzynski said the number of passengers flying through the airport in Mosinee rose even though two airlines, Delta and American, reduced the number of flights.
United Airlines, meanwhile, saw the biggest increase in landings and enplanements. According to a report from the engineering firm Mead & Hunt, United landings rose 25 percent while enplanements jumped 18 percent.
Mead & Hunt also reported that the average one-way fare from CWA fell $12 from 2009, from $185 to $173. The average fare from Minneapolis increased about $11 from $172 to $183.
