It seems now that Armando Galarraga is headed out of Detroit as the Tigers on Tuesday designated him for assignment and say they’ll be trying to trade the pitcher who barely missed a perfect game last season. The move yesterday came just a day after Detroit avoided salary arbitration by signing Galarraga to a one year, 2.3 million dollar contract. He finished last season with a 4-and-9 record and a 4.49 E-R-A.
The Tigers also yesterday finalized their deal with pitcher Brad Penny, who signs for one year for 3-million dollars with another three million available in performance bonuses. Penny missed much of last season in St. Louis because of an upper back strain, although Detroit General Manager Dave Dombrowski said yesterday he has passed a complete battery of physicals.
