WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) – You can get a sneak preview today of a public television documentary that tells the history of Wausau.
“Wisconsin Hometown Stories: Wausau” will be shown at the Grand Theater at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The hour long program will air on Wisconsin Public Television stations Monday at 8 p.m.
Producer David Hestad said they chose to focus on Wausau as part of the statewide series because of the area's strong connection to the lumber industry and the unique story of the Hmong immigration.
Producers held listening sessions last spring to identify exactly what part of the story to tell, interviewed 22 people last summer and sifted through hundreds of photos at the Marathon County Historical Society. Camera crews shot 25 hours of footage that was edited down into one hour.
