Driver points gun at sheriffs deputy during traffic stop

by

MERRILL, Wis (WSAU) A driver pulled a shotgun on a Lincoln County sheriffs deputy during a traffic stop last night. It happened around 7-45, when the deputy pulled over a suspected drunk driver.

Police dispatchers got several reports from other motorists about an erratic driver traveling southbound on Highway 51. Bruce Lyon-Duggin of Minneapolis was stopped near Spruce Street in Merrill. While the sheriffs deputy returned to his squad car, the suspect pointed a firearm out the window of vehicle. A brief stand-off followed, and then Lyon-Duggin was subdued and taken into custody.

He'll face multiple felony charges, including being in possession of a firearm while intoxicated. His blood-alcohol level hasn't been made public.

He was taken to the Lincoln County jail, and will make an initial court appearance at 1-30 this afternoon.
