WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) – Teachers at a Wausau charter school say they're excited to get ready for their second year.
The Wausau school district's Engineering and Global Leadership Academy just finished up their fist year of operation last week with a final project showcase, and lead instructor Tim Fetting says it's those projects that make up the bulk of students education. “Students work out these projects, and will be back to build on them next year and use what they learned in other endeavors.”
Those final projects each had at least 50 hours of student planning and execution. Fetting says teachers worked around what students wanted to build or research and supplemented that with other vital education.
But students next year will also be able to show off the Leadership part of the program by imparting their knowledge to incoming students. “It's a chance for them to be leaders for those freshman, and turn this into a revolving process.” Fetting says four students will be entering the senior class next year at the charter program and they're hoping to be able to plan an appropriate graduation when they year's over.
