WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) – Wausau Area Events is getting ready for their summer kickoff event tonight at Oak Island Park.

Director Kari Rasmussen says they moved the vent to Oak Island in order to give the 400 Block a good chance to settle and get stable for the rest of the summer events. “They just finished laying the sod, and we'd rather keep activity gentle there until the music event on Wednesday.” That's the start of events downtown, with Concerts on the Square on Wednesday, Marketplace Thursdays on Thursday and the summer Exhibitour event next Friday.

Rasmussen says that there's plenty of room for everyone to get their own space at Oak Island. “We're in the space between the main shelter and the tennis courts, so there's room to spread out your blankets and everything.” She reminds people that standard Wausau Parks rules apply so yo are allowed to bring carry-ins to the Park.

The summer kickoff starts tonight at 5pm with the family movie at dusk.
