WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) – Wausau's public health and safety committee voted last night against suspending the public intoxicant ordinance for the upcoming Exhibitour event down town.
Wausau area events director Kari Rasmussen had asked for that waiver in order to allow patrons of the event to bring wine samples with them out into the streets as they tour the River District downtown.
City council members argued against the measure. Committee chair Lisa Rasmussen said that they should not be allowing the exception to the rule just because an event features wine instead of beer. Vice-chair Romey Wager also pointed out that the downtown ordinance on the 400 block is vague, and that there's enough trouble trying to enforce ordinances as it is.
The full city council will vote on the committee recommendation tonight at their regular meeting.
